Terrain

On Friday, the short distance/training will take place at Rauðhólar, on the edge of Reykjavik. Rauðhólar is a lava-field area that has been exploited as a gravel pit and also seen construction during World War II. The terrain is fascinating with layers of sediment exposed to the air in varying color, interspersed with craters and small lakes. Running is generally very fast, and navigation simple. Times from Friday will not be entered into the competition, but will be posted.

On Saturday, the middle distance event will take place in Vífilsstaðahlíð a mix of forest and shrubland on the edge of the Capital. Small thick forests, some lava fields, some open terrain, steep hills and a lot of variation make this area exciting for runners as well as tricky to navigate.

On Sunday, the middle distance event will take place in Rauðvatn on the Capital’s suburb. Rauðavatn is a technical area beside the town. Many hills (HD 70 m), many paths, a lot of rocky details (cliffs, boulders, bare rock). 50 % open terrain with very good runnability, 50 % forested area (mainly dense pine forest) and in some slopes thick lupina areas. And from almost every corner of the map you can see Reykjavik and the sea just below you.
